Artist Statement: Con“soul”ment
"If only there was a cure, a “one pill” or single prescription that could bring healing or an end to the slow unravelling. For now, at least, we can only but console our loved ones. Like a mother cares for her child’s scrapes and bruises, we can only pull them closer in love, care for their obvious needs, drive them to appointments, sit with them in the ashes, help them remember, and help them forge tuntil someday we can do more.

The artworks play conceptually with ideas of unravelling and healing. The notion of unravelling is used as a metaphor for loss of memory; memory informs the sense of self until only “soul” remains. In the works, healing takes on the form of oversized Band-Aids or plasters that speak about the time, attention and care given by the affected individuals families - a loving response for a diagnosis with no permanent solution.
The installation further explores the conflicting experiences and the helplessness that accompanies such a diagnosis whilst questioning the complexity of patient and family care."
