ESCAP3 Gallery Duo Exhibition: 'Medium' featuring Octavia Roodt 'Prayers to Swallow' & Neo Theku 'Asylumism' at TAF2023

Turbine Art Fair 2023

Hyde Park Corner, Cnr Jan Smuts Avenue and William Nicol Drive, 6th Rd, Hyde Park, Johannesburg, South Africa

27 - 30 July 2023

ESCAP3 Gallery is delighted to announce our participation in the forthcoming Turbine Art Fair (TAF) 2023 with the presentation of 'Medium', a Duo Exhibition featuring new Series by Octavia Roodt: 'Prayers to Swallow' & Neo Theku: 'Asylusmism'.

Join us at Booth 8 of TAF which celebrates its 11th Edition taking place at the Forum Company’s upcoming Hyde Park Venue in Johannesburg, South Africa, 27 - 30 July 2023.

'Medium' presents the combination of two Series’ in which both Artists attempt to soothe, question and confront trauma. With the use of their own physical body in their work, they themselves become conduits or intermediaries between the corporeal and the unseen. 'Medium' not only alludes to an in between or middle, but also references the materials used in the creation of artworks.

Neo Theku will activate the exhibition space with a video Performance, in which he will further blurr the boundary between his two dimensional portraiture by inviting the audience to be included in his creation process, and the rituals of his practice. Octavia Roodt’s autobiographical 'body' of work presents us with an Installation which further perpetuates the interconnectedness between the Artist and their sacred work.

About Turbine Art Fair

In 2023, the Turbine Art Fair (TAF) will be moving to our new home at Hyde Park Corner on 27 – 30 July.

TAF  is a uniquely South African Art fair that brings together exhibitors from around Southern Africa to present, sell and celebrate works. The fair has become the epicentre of emerging art in South Africa. It presents a space for the showcasing of established and new talent in an environment that is immersive, accessible, and inclusive.

TAF was launched in 2013 at Turbine Hall in Newtown until 2018, we then moved to 10 Fricker rd from 2019 to 2021. In 2022 TAF went underground at Oxford Parks in Rosebank and now in 2023, we welcome Hyde Park Corner as our new home!

TAF has always been an Art Fair whose location has been at the forefront of the experience, we are widely known as a fair that takes art out of ‘traditional’ venues and into communities. It is a place for new voices, and new perspectives by making art accessible through generational relevance and supplementary experiences.

Founded in 2013 by The Forum Company, it is the first accessible and affordable South African art fair aimed at small scale and emerging galleries as well as emerging artists and collectors working toward growing the market for South African Contemporary art. TAF aims to continue to empower, educate, entertain and sell.

The fair provides a space for a range of galleries, secondary market dealers, print studios, artist organisations, collectives and project spaces to exhibit new emerging artists and mid-career artists to exhibit and engage with emerging and established collectors and audiences.
