Natasha Norman Collaboratively Creates Mokuhanga Print with Jake Aikman
Jake Aikman Studios
"At the end of last year I was approached by the South African artist, Jake Aikman, to collaborate on creating a Mokuhanga edition based on one of his paintings. It was the most wonderful experience, testing and expanding my skills and providing a space for me to share my knowledge of Mokuhanga with his lovely assistant, Jané Coetzee.
It was quite a task creating an edition of 36 prints on paper size 79 x 67 cm and I was grateful for Jané's help. This morning I had a fresh look at the framed PP edition hanging in our bedroom and I realised what an achievement it was to create the softest of colour fades at the ocean horizon. Jake really responded to this aspect of the print and has titled it, Almost There (Atlantic). The choice of a soft, buttery, hand-sized washi paper from Echizen is a real compliment to the piece despite being a little difficult to handle at that scale."
