Date: 12 May 2021, 16:00 - 17:00 (CAT)

The North-West University (NWU) Research Niche, Visual Narratives and Creative Outputs (ViNCO), invites you to a public seminar by Moshumee T. Dewoo with introduction by Dr. Annemi Conradie.

In a discussion of African and diasporaean writing, Moshumee T. Dewoo examines creative strategies of ‘making blackness strange’ in worlds where black bodies, lives and narratives have historically been distorted in art and media.  She also speaks about her own poetry and the creative reclaiming and battling of what it means to belong as a contemporary, Indo-Mauritian and African woman.

Dewoo has published and lectured on African political thought and literature, cultural heritage, and the Indo-Mauritian diaspora. She has published three volumes of poetry and is completing her PhD in African Studies at the University of Cape Town.
