Authors House - Authors in Residence
In order to provide concrete support to creators of images living in Angoulême or wishing to come there for residency, the authors' house was created in July 2002 at the initiative of the Syndicat Mixte du Pôle Image - Magelis. Since January 1, 2008, she has been part of one of the departments of the International City of Comics and Images. Since its opening, this international residency has welcomed comic book authors, illustrators, animation directors ... for periods ranging from three months to two years.
Since its opening in July 2002, the house of authors has welcomed more than 300 artists in residence while around fifty local authors benefit from its many services .
Octavia Roodt was born in 1995 in Johannesburg (South Africa). She obtained a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from the University of Pretoria in 2017 and then, in 2020, a Master of Fine Arts in autobiographical comics. She also taught Illustration at this university.
In 2019 and 2020, her works are exhibited in South Africa as part of the RMB Artist Development program.
She is welcomed to the 'Maison des Auteurs' for her first long story 'Promised Land', an autobiographical fiction set on a South African farm. She explores the realm of dreams and develops a universe where the traditional culture of Afrikaans peasants, poetry and dreamlike scenes blend.
