HOW REAL IS REAL

The allegorical painting by Hicham Matini and Saad Nazih can be discovered at La Galerie 38 in Casablanca from March 25 to April 25, 2022 on the occasion of the exhibition “How real is real? An art that is neither profane nor sacred but mythological, neither modern nor contemporary but a-historical.

The artists Matini and Nazih, exhibits for the first time together, reinventing the formal and conceptual visual languages of an immemorial human permanence. They offer meticulous compositions in the form of hyper-detailed frescoes with themes of universal questioning at the heart of which the singularities of humanity spring. Their paintings are ultimately not realistic or even hyper-realistic but constructivist... That is to say, it offers a vision of the world that is obviously as subjective as it is personal...

And that is the reality of reality... The reality of our reality: a construction, here visual, and by a painting decidedly and definitively as original and inventive as it is scholarly and referenced, because that henceforth and thanks in particular to Matini and Nazih: the visual arts, in Morocco, wrote and invented a History... Their History... and here more particularly this one, which allows them to enter with pride and majesty in our (juvenile...) History of Art! And of course, this one is intelligent and generous enough to leave room for all of humanity... In its otherness, its entirety, and its singularities! All these realities of reality!
